Now You See It

a1Before there
was plastic wrap —
there was Cellophane.

Although you still see it
in/on some things,
like cigars and clear
adhesive tape,
the product has lost a
lot of ground from
it’s heyday in the
1940’s and 1950’s.

The advertising from the time really shows just how
aggressively it was being marketed…..

One of our readers
sent us a print advertisement
for cellophane lingerie…..

and as much as I
love the idea of this
having been a ‘real’ product,

(you know, the whole
see-thru thing
always sends me)

— I was bummed to discover
that it was just another
example of a misleading ad.

The truth is,
it advocates consumers
buying lingerie wrapped
in cellophane –
for ,
reasons hard to
really conceptualize,
other than for selling
more cellophane.

Still, she does look
stunning in her
‘packaged in cellophane’
1940’s prim and propers,
I guess.

Well, it’s better than
flannel, anyway.

!!!! HOY !!!!

  1. The babies cracked me up. What a great ad. I always like to think of the people who came up with the ads. They must have been demented–but in a good way.

  2. mislucja says:

    Sorry about the dress thing!
But yikes, that cellophane baby advert is WEIRD!

  3. Wow, who knew!
    HUGS!!! 😀
