Into The Blue

Blue
.

When you get to
thinking about it,
blue might be the
most complicated
color ……

There’s so many
potential abstractions
of blue that relate to
the different parts of
our lives in one way
or another.

When we tell
someone that
we’re feeling blue,
most folks know
exactly what we’re
experiencing .

It’s the only color
that has it’s own
comedy genre
named after it ……

And the only color
that has it’s own
music genre
named after it,
too.

Man,
the Blues Brothers
notwithstanding,
just think about
all the great songs
talking about blue:

Ray Charles: Am I Blue

David Bowie: Blue Jean

Linda Ronstadt: Blue Bayou

Chet Baker: Almost Blue

New Order: Blue Monday

Allman Bros: Blue Sky

ZZ Top: Blue Jeans Blues

Gotta favorite ?

Thinking about
blue, one gets
an explosion of
visuals and concepts
that go along with
it…….

And so I guess it’s
appropriate that the
color has so many
different shades, all
loaded with their own
distinct connotations :

Try saying one of
these variations and
then pay attention to
the rich diversity of
concepts they call to
mind:

Navy Blue
Sapphire
Midnight Blue
Baby Blue
Robins Egg Blue
Ice Blue
Electric Blue
Aquamarine

No wonder it’s
called the
poet’s color.

As Robert Frost
wrote :

Why make so much
of fragmentary blue
In here and there
a bird, or butterfly,
Or flower, or
wearing-stone,
or open eye,
When heaven presents
in sheets the solid hue?

Since earth is earth,
perhaps, not heaven
(as yet)–
Though some savants
make earth include the sky;
And blue so far
above us comes so high,
It only gives our wish
for blue a whet.

(Fragmentary Blue,
by Robert Frost, 1920)
