Dreamin A Dreamy Dream

fontaine“You see things;
and you say,

But I dream things
that never were;
and I say,
‘Why not?’”

(George Bernard Shaw)

Ah …
to be such a
dreamer, right?

Once in a while
I’ll dream about
a concept,
a favorite word
or an idea —jayne
and I’ll say —
” … post about THAT ?? ”

But like the man says:
Why Not ?

I think I’ll just
sit back,
consult the muses,
and then
watch what happens.

It’s like throwing
a match into a
fireworks factory–

— you never know what
kinda sparks will result.

All kinds of fuses
might get lit, ya know.

Or it might just be that
the match simply fizzles
out on the floor,
basically because the
cleaning people didn’t
do a good enough job
of getting all theraja
mop water up.

You jest can’t get good
help these days, man.

Ever notice that the
pre-packaged egg whites
they sell in the little
milk carton thingees
won’t whip up
worth a damn?

Why iz that,
I wonder.

And you may be
why I even mention it.

But, you’ve probably been
around here long enough
to know that I’m making
one of my belabored
on todays’ theme.

You see, I had this
weird dream in which
I was making
(trying to make, anyway)
Angel Food Cake for my
high school sweet-heart ‘d’ —oracles

(Ok, so she wasn’t that sweet,
but she did bust up my
heart in about
a thousand pieces…
— still, I digress.)

and the prepackaged
damned egg whites
that I was using –

(a product that didn’t exist
when I was in high school, btw)

wouldn’t give me
the stiff peaks
I was looking for —
or any peaks at
all to speak of.reddevil

Yes, that’s another thing
that reminded of her,

digressing badly.

Getting back to
the original point
of this treatise
(as difficult as that might
be at this juncture)
I chose the concept
‘dream’ as our daily post victim/subject,
because I kinda
wondered aboutsteall
the whole meaning
of the thing.

Oh sure,
there’s plenty
of directions
and different spins
on the subject of dreams
in vintage publications—

but, I thought I’d dig
through the
virtual mountain of ’em
and find a theme that
would work for mekonje
and maybe even give
me an idea of what
that dream meant.

I know this ain’t
exactly a scientific
to it, but I’m not
exactly an Einstein myself.

And speaking of scientific
you can’t go
any farther askew
than with vintageraj
“Dream Books”.

These things claimed
to be sources of
ancient wisdom
and able to provide
love advice,
dream interpretations,
lucky numbers,
all kinds of

And some of them are
actually still in print today.georgia

So, let’s see if
you can look into
your crystal ball
and see where
we’re going
with this.

—you got it.

maybe I shouldn’t
have led off with
pictures, huh?

Don’t Hang Your Dreams in Your Closet

“Dreaming is an act of pure imagination, attesting in all men a creative power,
which if it were available in waking, would make every man a Dante or Shakespeare”.

(H.F. Hedge)

I know it might surprise some people,

…but I’m a big fan of dreams.

Not the kinda ‘dreams’ politicians talk about, which are about nothing but appearances and empty promises —

….. nor those of the wanna-be rich and famous, which are nothing but materialism and ultra-egoism.

Those aren’t dreams at all …..

They’re just cheap allegorical rhetoric when compared to the real thing.

Yeah, maybe I’m playing on words here, ’cause dreams aren’t real, right?

Or are they?

See if you can follow my bizarre reasoning here for a minute……

Let’s say you go to the amusement park, and ride the roller coaster, you’ll get excited.

And if you simply dream that you’re riding a roller coaster,
— you’ll get just as excited.

Heck, I dunno….
Maybe more.

So, what is the experiential difference?

I mean, when one defines ones life,

…………….. does one not define it by the experience of it?

Actually, some dreams seem even better than reality….

I’ve flown in lots of different aircraft over the years,

But the best flight I ever took was soaring all by myself in my dreams….

no jets, no propellers, no wings, no hard landings, no acerbic flight attendants.

I will admit a small downside-
— no complimentary bag of salted peanuts —
but then, you don’t get them on most commercial flights anymore, either.

And I wouldn’t trade the memory of those flying dreams for any ‘real’ experience
I can think of…..

rome— short of, maybe 16 hot and horny Muscleheaded redhead groupies
in a pool full of jello…………..

not even then.

(of course, that’s easy for me to say…

…. since the likelihood of 16 women simultaneously finding me all that irresistible is pretty dim….  )

Ok – you might say, but dreams are temporary – they flash past and are gone.

Mmm hmmm…..

…………..and what about the moment you started reading this blog…

where did THAT moment go?

……….. Or this next one?

… so you’re probably thinking I’m just trying to mess with your mind, here,

But I’m not.

I’m just admitting out loud that my previously held belief that dreams are
simply a result of the mind debugging itself during sleep was perhaps a bit over-simplified.

I don’t say dreams have any prescient quality of their own…

I’m not saying that dreams can predict tidal waves, horrible-canes or amusement park floods.

4I do say that dreams can tell you a lot about yourself,

— about your innate feelings and intuitions —

and things you’ve suppressed during the day.

They represent,
as the mad scientist would say: ” …….monsters from the Id “.

And I think one would also have to add ” angels “.

Sometimes, a dream is just about consciously unfulfilled desires..

waveIf you dream about shaking hands with a bear,

— it might just mean that you’re overdue for a trip to Grandfather Mountain to say hello to Mildred the Bear.

( alas, my friend,
— you are truly outta luck, tho ….

Mildred the Bear has gone on to her reward in that great Jellystone Park in the sky…. )

What got me started on this subject was a recent article I read about how,

— before a very well known Holly-weird celebrity and martial-arts expert’s unfortunate and bee-zZARE death,

he had been having a recurrent dream about a ghost in a closet.

He was found suffocated in his Bangkok hotel room closet, in June, 2009–

a… with a rope around both his neck and his genitals —

He had passed out during a session of ‘gasping’–

— another word for auto-erotic asphyxiation–

and ended up as a case of unintentional suicide.

Make no mistake-

that ghost that appeared to him in his dreams really WAS him.

Uh huh.

ooooooo ,5

……………… isn’t that scary, kids?

I mean, of course, that his subconscious mind was trying to tell him something.

He just didn’t comprehende-vous the message….

(which we’ll get to in a minute..)

There are a lot of books on this subject,

but I gotta say, most of them seem pretty crappy to me.

I like CG Jung’s works, as you probably have already guessed, partly because he’s not afraid to go out on a limb about the potentials of dreams.

My mom gave me one of those ‘meaning of dream symbols’ books and it was
really wretched.

(I didn’t tell her it was wretched – I said it was ‘arcane’..
………….. but you and I both know what was meant…. )

horseIt had all kinds of mumbo-jumbo predictions tied to particular symbols appearing in a dream…..….

For instance, a horse in your dream meant that you were gonna get bull-dozered in some upcoming negotiation–

— unless it was ridden by a naked woman, in which case you were gonna have something secret about your personality exposed against your will.

Jeanne Dixon style Astrology was then added for additional ….

….  umm… errr….. meaning ?

I don’t see symbols in dreams as meaningful outside of your own capacities….

…… or as having any inherent predictive nature.

Oh sure-

You may FEAR that you’re gonna get outted as a closet self strangler, or some such,

and- this fear may manifest itself in your dreams in symbols or activities…

But, that not withstanding, and outside of the well-documented ‘self fulfilling prophecy’ effect,

unless :

1: You ARE a closet self-strangler,

friend2: You don’t take precautions….

Mind you, I have no idea what precautions–
– my neck is still a virgin to the auto-erotic rope, and hopefully always will be.

But, there’s gotta be something you can do as a safety measure…

……..  like a SPOTTER, or ‘ choke buddy??? ‘ .

and :

3: You don’t listen to that little voice inside your conscious and subconscious mind that whispers very sweetly:

Otherwise, a dream can’t really hurt ya–

(Barring the ones that bring on the occasional heart attack,

humiliate you in a communal sleep space,

or make ya wake up with that ‘I’ve just lost my ever-lovin’ mind’ look in your eyes . )

Dreams are much more likely to teach you things you didn’t already know about yourself,

Let you abandon your inhibitions for a while,

Or give your mind a little vacation while moving various bits of information and memory around.

So, you got nuthin really to worry about….
— lie back and enjoy the flight……

And don’t hang your dreams in the closet.
